Tethered or untethered

The APEX-7S comes in two versions. The tethered charger has the cable attached, which is handy for drivers who want to pull up and plug in. The untethered version has a socket, so the driver uses their own cable, which suits households with more than one car or anyone who prefers a tidier wall. Ask the client which they would rather have before you order. Both versions share the same charger, so the choice is mainly about cable handling and how the driver wants to use it day to day. Untethered chargers also leave a cleaner look on the front of a house, which some clients prefer.

Planning the supply

An EV charger is a significant load, so look at the existing supply and consumer unit before you quote. Check the product listing for the charger's requirements, and think about where the cable route will run from the board to the parking space. Getting the survey right at the start avoids surprises on install day. Talk to the client about where they park, as it affects both the cable route and which version of the charger makes sense. It is also worth explaining the app or settings to them before you leave. A good handover avoids most of the follow up calls on these jobs.
