What a photocell does

A photocell senses daylight and switches a lighting circuit when it gets dark. It is the simplest way to make sure a porch light, sign or car park fitting comes on every evening without relying on a timer that needs adjusting as the seasons change. Fitted to a wall or alongside a luminaire, it looks after itself once it is set up. Photocells suit porches, driveways, signage, car parks and shared entrances where lighting is needed every night. They are a low cost upgrade that clients notice straight away, especially in winter when it gets dark early.

Using the Deligo kit

The Deligo FKISS is a photocell kit for adding dusk to dawn control to existing outdoor lighting. Position it where it gets natural daylight but is not lit up by the fittings it controls, otherwise the lights can cycle on and off. Check the product listing for wiring and load details before you install, and pair it with a manual override if the client wants one. Pairing a photocell with a PIR is another option, so lights only come on at night and only when someone is there. That keeps running costs down and avoids lights burning all night in quiet areas.
