Earthing Supplies: Rods, Clamps and Pits
Earth rods and clamps
Copper earth rods are listed in 3/8 inch and 5/8 inch diameters, both 4ft long. A thicker rod is stiffer and easier to drive into harder ground, while the smaller size suits lighter work. The Deligo ERC3/8 brass machined clamp connects the earthing conductor to a 3/8 inch rod. For bonding, there is a 135mm earth clamp for non-corrosive and dry atmospheres, and 133mm clamps made for corrosive and humid atmospheres, so choose the clamp that suits the conditions where it will be fitted.
Inspection pits and testing
An earth rod needs to stay accessible for inspection and testing. The Furse PT205 lightweight inspection pit, with a grey polymer lid and a 300 x 300mm footprint, covers the top of the rod and its connection at ground level so it can be found and checked later. After driving the rod and making the connection, test the electrode and record the reading on the certificate. If the reading isn't where it needs to be, an extra rod or a different location may be the answer.
